In an age where technology allows individuals to cross borders without leaving their homes, more and more people are connecting, especially over their passion for food. At Cuisine Noir, we have made it our mission to “connect the African Diaspora through food, wine and travel,” and celebrate other platforms doing the same.
One that is new is AFReviews Eats, a food concept that aims to provide food-centered entertainment and conversations to members of the African Diaspora was well.
“We want to showcase Pan-African food, dishes, and cooking styles to better connect people and spread the positivism of global Black culture,” says Chiziterem Uwaga, one of the co-founders. Uwaga along with his team members, Sharon Anaba and Ciore Taylor, recently started a Kickstarter campaign to raise $8500 to create a pilot episode.
The pilot will feature a cross-cultural cooking competition where cooks and professional chefs will square off to show their culinary talents and skills. “We will launch on YouTube, then look towards distribution with other platforms such as Netflix and Amazon. Later, AFReviews Eats will expand to AFReviews Travel, podcasts and/or whatever our audience requests. Right now, our top priority is creating a platform that will let the culture speak,” says Uwaga.
Starting Conversations with AFReviews Eats
Born in the U.S. and Nigeria, Uwaga, Anaba and Taylor came together out of the shared desire to understand each other and those across the diaspora better. “Members of the non-Black community may look at us all the same, but we understand our differences are what makes us beautiful. We want to unpack that, firstly, through food,” shares Uwaga.

The concept is creativity explained in the video hosted on the Kickstarter page. Potential backers of the campaign are asked to contribute by December 2, so that the team can move forward with production and a summer 2020 release.
The success of the pilot will further conversations around cultures throughout the African Diaspora that are ultimately bonded together through history, traditions and ingredients.
