As Haiti faces a worsening humanitarian crisis due to escalating gang violence and control, Overture International is leading a transformative effort to combat food insecurity and reduce dependency on foreign aid through its innovative Diri Lavi! Food packaging program.
Since its launch in 2022, Diri Lavi! has packaged and distributed more than 300,000 nutritious meals, with plans to pack an additional 200,000 meals in 2025. This community-driven initiative is not only feeding families but also transforming the local economy by creating jobs and supporting Haitian farmers.
Overture International’s executive director, Lisa Hyatt, emphasizes the resilience and determination of the Haitian people in driving this initiative forward. “The people of Haiti work incredibly hard, and Diri Lavi! is living proof that sustainable, locally led solutions can transform lives and communities. By investing in Haitian farmers, workers, and businesses, we are not only feeding children and families today but also building a stronger economy for the future.”

Diri Lavi! Program Ignites Independence
Unlike traditional food aid programs that rely on imported goods, Diri Lavi! prioritizes local sourcing and employment. The program purchases rice, beans, and other staple foods from Haitian farmers, ensuring that the economic benefits stay within the community. Additionally, meal packaging and distribution are managed entirely by Haitian workers, reinforcing local leadership in the fight against hunger.
Haitian Christian Outreach in Jacmel, Haiti, is a local partner that is using locally packaged meals to sustain its feeding programs. It’s executive director Megan Schreiber states, “Overture International’s Diri Lavi! program has allowed us to continue feeding 1,500+ students and hospital staff during a time when food is not getting to our area.
Even the doctors are unable to feed their families. If we were exclusively dependent upon food being shipped in, we would have a higher number of children experiencing the detrimental impact of severe malnutrition.”
As international aid to Haiti dwindles, Diri Lavi! stands as a powerful model of self-reliance and sustainability. Overture International remains committed to expanding this initiative, supporting local partners, and scaling solutions that empower Haitian communities to thrive independently.
