In their first cookbook titled, “Caribbean Potluck,” sisters Suzanne and Michelle Rousseau invite foodies to go on a culinary journey with them that is rooted in their rich “mixup and blenda” family heritage of African, French, German, Indian, Scottish, Haitian, Cuban and British.
Born and raised in Jamaica, the authors and hostesses of the TV show and blog, Two Sisters and a Meal, savor the history and culture of the Caribbean through recipes that are peppered with family stories.
“Our father was a very savvy restaurateur/gourmand and he always traveled with us to restaurants when we were younger in the islands or outside of them. Our mother was a very good home cook and entertainer so there was a lot of entertaining going on in our home growing up,” says Suzanne, who is the oldest of the two.
Recipes That Share a “Blenda” Heritage
The book is a beautiful illustration of family, love, culture and of course food. With more than 100 recipes at your fingertips such as Mummy’s Roast Pork with Cracklin’ and Rum Gravy and Jerked Pork with Mango Ginger Sauce, you’ll have all the tips and flavors needed to create your own Caribbean potluck.
Since the success of their show and blog, as well as the release of their book, Suzanne and Michelle are staying pretty busy these days. The sisters would like to do another book and expand their TV presence outside of Jamaica, connecting the dots that bring us all together.
Sharing that vision, Michelle says, “Ultimately we would like to cross over and have some type of Caribbean programming that is outside of Jamaica. We could showcase other cultures that are related, such as Latin America, Africa and all the other connections we have here at our roots. Part of the work for us is to bring our voice and experience to others and carry that outside of Jamaica in all that we do.”
