From August 1 – 24, Prosperity Market–the mobile farmers market spotlighting Black farmers, food producers, chefs, and entrepreneurs in Los Angeles– will host its 5th annual Black Business Scavenger Hunt that takes participants on a journey across the city to discover local Black-owned shops, restaurants, and more.

In honor of Black Business Month, Prosperity Market founders Kara Still and Carmen Dianne created an interactive map with 100+ Black-owned businesses across food, fashion, wellness, entertainment, and more, encouraging Angelenos to discover and visit as many locations as possible in order to earn points and win prizes.

“For the last five years, Prosperity Market has made it our mission to raise visibility for Black-owned businesses and keep dollars circulating through our community, and the Black Business Scavenger Hunt has been one of the main ways we support this goal and expand our impact beyond food businesses,” says co-founder Carmen Dianne.

As Prosperity Market prepares to launch their long-awaited mobile trailer in early 2026 (which will be on-site at the pop-up market on August 31), Kara and Carmen continue their mission of raising awareness and making Black-owned businesses accessible to all parts of Los Angeles.

How the Scavenger Hunt Works

On August 1, Prosperity Market will reveal the list of participating businesses via a Treasure Map and word bank on their website. Players can text #BBSH25 to the number 323-417-0465 to participate, and earn points by texting the keyword for each business when they visit.

The map is organized by both shop category and neighborhood for easy exploration. Extra points can also be earned by making a purchase at each location, posting on social media, attending featured events, and shopping Prosperity Market’s website.

The participants with the most points collected by August 24 will win special prizes to be revealed at Prosperity Market’s pop-up event on August 31 hosted at California African American Museum.

Follow @Prosperity.Market on Instagram and sign up for text and email updates to receive tips to earn extra points.

Black Business Scavenger Hunt Finale Market

To conclude Black Business Month and the Scavenger Hunt, Prosperity Market’s finale market will take the form of a pop-up, hosted at California African American Museum on August 31. Prosperity Market’s mobile trailer will be on-site for tours. The winners of the Black Business Scavenger Hunt will also be announced and prizes will be distributed during the event.
